The Apple Watch won’t go on sale until late April, but there are already cheap fakes available for purchase on Chinese websites. With such monikers as the Aiwatch and the D iwatch, the wearables are deliberate replicas of the far more expensive Apple device.
In U.S. dollars, the knockoffs cost between $45 and $80. On the other hand, the Apple Watch starts at $349, and can run all the way up to $17,000 for the high-end rose gold option.
The fakes have the same square watch face as the Apple Watch, and also feature circular app icons on the display. Of course, they’re likely far less advanced, technologically speaking.
Knockoffs of Apple’s buzziest new product were expected, and in fact, already popped up months ago. In January at the 2015 International CES, Mashable apps reporter Karissa Bell bought a fake Apple Watch for $27. Hyperdon, a Shenzhen-based developer, created the very simply named “Smart Watch.”
For those waiting for the real deal, however, it will be available to consumers starting on April 24. But if you just can’t wait (or don’t have the cash), there are other options out there.
